Meet Allison Jai O’Dell, Senior Consultant at Vantage Point!
Fun Facts:
- I used to work as a rare book librarian.
- I read five languages – three of them stone-dead.
- I live with a crew of free-roam, thoroughly opinionated, litter-trained, rescued bunny rabbits.
What is your favorite part of working for Vantage Point, and why?
I work with a group of incredibly bright and experienced professionals who bring a depth of knowledge and capacity for learning new skills. I love how quickly my teammates are able to grok and solve problems – it makes collaboration a breeze. Plus, we’re all nerds who love a challenge!
How did you get to Vantage Point?
I earned an M.S. in Information Science, and worked for a decade in the academic sector, focusing on data modeling and management. I was experienced with major system integrations, platform migrations, and change management strategies when I decided to pivot to a focus on CRM and marketing technologies. I’ve since worked with financial services, consumer goods, philanthropic, and nonprofit organizations on projects ranging from business intelligence reporting, to implementation of data privacy policies, to improving email deliverability, to data warehouse design, to Salesforce customizations and automations.
Coming from a former faculty role, I still have a passion for research and teaching – and this is what I love so much about working as a consultant with Vantage Point: 1) the opportunity to tackle new problems and solve new challenges on a daily basis, and 2) to share what I’ve learned with our client partners.
If you wrote a memoir, what would you title it and why?
Funny you should ask! I began a memoir-writing workshop as a creative outlet during the pandemic, and I’m getting close to a finished book – still working on the title, though. Any suggestions?
If you could go back to your first day at Vantage Point, what advice would you give yourself?
It’s okay to ask questions. Everyone is here because they love learning, and we’re all big nerds who like to talk about data!
What is your typical coffee order, and what do you think it says about you?
Drip coffee, dark roast, vanilla soy creamer – which might be a hint that I’m vegan.
If you could choose any superpower, what would it be and why?
Flight – I can’t think of anything that sounds more fun!
What is your most unusual talent?
It’s not that unusual, but it invites the most questions – I spin my own yarn. (Yes, you can make yarn!) I love creating things from start to finish – whether that’s taking fiber, spinning it into yarn, and then weaving a blanket, or taking raw data, creating structure, and then solving a business problem, I love seeing a pile of stuff turn into a useful new product.
What would you tell someone considering applying for a job here?
Be prepared for some bad jokes! We love a good pun around these parts.
