Slack's June 2024 Updates: What Financial Services Admins Need to Know

Slack has recently released a series of updates to improve collaboration and productivity for organizations. In this blog post, we will explore each update and provide examples of financial services-focused business use cases. We will also explain how Vantage Point Consulting helps organizations implement and get the most out of Slack and all solutions across the Salesforce platform.

What's New

  1. Channel manager invitation restrictions (Enterprise Grid): Channel managers can now restrict members and guests from inviting others to private channels, making it so that only channel managers and admins can invite users to the channel. This helps financial services firms maintain tighter control over sensitive information shared in private channels. LEARN MORE
  2. Integrate Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook with Slack: A new option allows members to automatically set their Slack status to "out of office" when set in Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. This feature ensures that financial advisors' availability is accurately reflected in Slack, improving team coordination and client communication. LEARN MORE
  3. New channel audit report export (Enterprise Grid, Business+): The channel audit and channel membership audit is now available for eligible customers to self-serve via the Exports page in Slack. This additional export type enables financial services firms to maintain detailed records of channel activity for compliance and auditing purposes. LEARN MORE
  4. Corporate email restrictions (Enterprise Grid): A new setting allows org owners to block members from joining external workspaces with their corporate email address. This feature helps financial services firms protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access to company information. LEARN MORE
  5. Trigger curation for Workflow Builder admins (Enterprise Grid): Owners and admins can now control which triggers can be used to build workflows, mirroring the existing controls for managing Workflow Builder steps. This update allows financial services firms to standardize and streamline their workflow creation process. LEARN MORE

Coming Soon

  1. Slack lists: Lists is a new surface in Slack where teams can manage tasks, requests, issues, and more. Financial services teams can use lists to track client onboarding, compliance tasks, or risk management issues, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
  2. Monthly active user data: The overview dashboard will soon display data showing monthly active users within a given workspace or Enterprise Grid organization. This data will help financial services firms understand user engagement and identify opportunities for training or process improvements.
  3. Shared sidebar sections, powered by user groups: A new option will allow a user group's default channels to automatically appear as a shared section in all group members' sidebars. This feature will make it easier for financial services teams to access relevant channels and stay informed.
